Before you begin to clean your flat roof, experts here at High-Tech Membrane Roofing Ltd recommend you seek the advice or services of a professional cleaning company who can advise the best system for cleaning your flat roof.

With leaves falling from the trees, autumn is probably one of the best times to tackle your flat roof. Before you start it is advisable to brush any loose debris from the roof.

One of the best ways to clean your roof, and one which is growing in popularity is to use a pressure washer. On average a gasoline powered pressure washer delivers 2.4 gallons of water per minute and as a result releases a pressure of 2,500 pounds per square inch. This method will easily remove any moss or algae that has grown on your roof as a result of stagnating water after rainfall. It is also an environmentally friendly way to clean your roof, as no chemicals are needed.

Another way to clean your roof is with the help of chlorine solution washes. As this method is considerably quicker, your roof is saved from a lot of wear and tear due to prolonged hours of washing and cleaning. It is worth noting, however, that chlorine is toxic for some people and plants, so care should be taken.

Sodium hydroxide is another alternative which is just as effective, although if the solution used is too high it can cause irreversible damage to the roof. This method also requires more intensive rinsing and for this reason can take longer to complete.
